Filing a home insurance claim can be stressful. This guide walks you through every step of the Nevada claims process — and how to make sure you get the full payout you deserve.
A home insurance claim is something most Nevada homeowners hope they never have to file. But when disaster strikes — whether it's a kitchen fire, burst pipe, or monsoon storm damage — knowing exactly what to do can mean the difference between a smooth payout and a frustrating, underpaid claim.
Step 1: Ensure Safety First
Before anything else, make sure everyone is safe. If there's structural damage, fire, or gas leaks, evacuate and call 911. Don't re-enter a damaged home until authorities confirm it's safe. Your safety is more important than any insurance claim.
Step 2: Document Everything Immediately
Before any cleanup or repairs, document all damage thoroughly. Take photos and videos of every affected area from multiple angles. Include wide shots showing the full scope of damage and close-ups showing specific damage details. This documentation is critical for your claim.
Step 3: Prevent Further Damage
Your policy requires you to take reasonable steps to prevent additional damage. This might mean covering a damaged roof with a tarp, boarding up broken windows, or shutting off water to prevent further flooding. Keep all receipts for emergency repairs — these costs are typically reimbursable.
Important: Do NOT make permanent repairs before your insurance adjuster inspects the damage. Temporary emergency repairs are fine and necessary, but permanent repairs before inspection can complicate your claim.
Step 4: Contact Your Insurance Company
Call your insurance carrier's claims line as soon as possible. Most carriers have 24/7 claims reporting. Have your policy number ready. Then immediately contact Advantixx Insurance Group — we'll advocate on your behalf throughout the entire claims process.
Step 5: Work with the Adjuster
The insurance company will send an adjuster to assess the damage. Be present during the inspection and provide your documentation. You have the right to get your own independent estimate if you disagree with the adjuster's assessment. Advantixx can help you navigate this process.
Step 6: Review the Settlement Offer
Don't automatically accept the first settlement offer. Review it carefully against your documentation and independent estimates. If you believe the offer is too low, you can negotiate or invoke the appraisal clause in your policy. Our team can help you evaluate any settlement offer.
